Chen-Yun "Larry" Weng
Mr. Weng’s practice focuses on patent prosecution, infringement analysis, and cross-border IP strategy, with an emphasis on consumer electronics, mechanical engineering, optics, semiconductors, software, and wireless technologies. He assists clients in identifying strategic inventions and implementing effective IP protection aligned with their business objectives.
Before entering U.S. practice, Mr. Weng built a strong foundation in Taiwan’s IP legal framework, gaining experience in a civil law jurisdiction that complements his work in the U.S. common law system. He began his legal career at PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal (Taiwan), handling patent drafting and prosecution for multinational companies. Mr. Weng also served as In-House Legal Counsel at the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan’s national research institution, where he managed IP transfer and licensing matters supporting technology commercialization and advised R&D teams on infringement risk and contract compliance.
Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. Weng held engineering positions in leading high-tech companies, including VisEra Technologies, a subsidiary of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), and Delta Electronics, a global leader in power management systems.
Mr. Weng is admitted to the State Bar of California and the Taiwan Bar and passed the USPTO patent bar in 2023. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, English and Taiwanese (native).
