Gieson

Dr. Van Gieson counsels clients on patent portfolio development and enforcement. He has over sixteen years of experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the United States Patent & Trademark Office, developing national and worldwide patent portfolio strategies, conducting intellectual property due diligence investigations, patent reexaminations and reissues, patent appeals, and providing patent opinions. He has extensive experience in analyzing patent portfolios for licensing and acquisition transactions. He has also extensive patent litigation experience in his background, which he uses to advise clients in developing patent portfolios.

Dr. Van Gieson’s technical background prior to becoming a patent lawyer includes a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and years of experience working in top engineering research centers, including IBM and the David Sarnoff Research Center. He has counseled clients in intellectual property matters in a wide variety of technologies. Representative technologies include mechanical devices, medical devices, games and toys, energy saving technologies, lighting technology, nanotechnology, integrated circuit design, computer software, e-commerce, semiconductors, opto-electronics, graphics technology, telecommunications, signal processing, and network technologies.

Prior to joining Beyer Law Group, Dr. Van Gieson was a partner with Cooley Godward Kronish, LLP. Dr. Van Gieson is a member of the State Bar of California. He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
