Dr. Van Gieson counsels clients on patent portfolio development and enforcement. He has over sixteen years of experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the United States Patent & Trademark Office, developing national and worldwide patent portfolio strategies, conducting intellectual property due diligence investigations, patent reexaminations and reissues, patent appeals, and providing patent opinions. He has extensive experience in analyzing patent portfolios for licensing and acquisition transactions. He has also extensive patent litigation experience in his background, which he uses to advise clients in developing patent portfolios.
Dr. Van Gieson’s technical background prior to becoming a patent lawyer includes a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and years of experience working in top engineering research centers, including IBM and the David Sarnoff Research Center.
