Mr. Scott assists individuals, emerging companies and large corporations in obtaining patent protection for their innovations and in managing their patent portfolios in the U.S. and abroad. He has experience in counseling clients on devising a strategy to protect important technology, licensing that technology, developing a patent program in-house, responding to charges of patent infringement, asserting patent rights, and evaluating technology and patents held by others. He also advises clients on all aspects of intellectual property including trade secret, copyright, trademark and licensing issues in order to form a comprehensive strategy.

He has prepared patent applications in a wide range of disciplines including financial and payment systems, artificial intelligence (AI), smart cards, Internet technologies, video conferencing, image compression and processing, cryptography, digital and analog electronics, telecommunications, computer architecture, real-time control systems, semiconductor processing and measurement, lasers and a variety of mechanical devices.

Mr. Scott has developed considerable expertise in providing written and oral opinions concerning the infringement, validity and enforceability of U.S. patents. He has experience in performing sophisticated prior art and patent searching in the U.S. and abroad for rendering these opinions, for product clearance studies, and for gathering defensive prior art.

Mr. Scott has been a registered U.S. patent attorney and member of the State Bar of California since 1995, and is also a member of the State Bar of Minnesota. He has worked as a software engineer and instructor for Teknowledge, Inc. in artificial intelligence, and as a semiconductor test engineer for Megatest Corporation.
